10 Year Warranty and Care and Maintenance for Knotwood™
KnotwoodTM coatings used on your aluminium extrusions are one of the leading coatings available today. KnotwoodTM provides a durable, resilient colour finish for all aluminium extrusions, which in turn assists in the lifetime of your aluminium designed extrusions.
KnotwoodTM only use Interpon D2010 approved applicators for KnotwoodTM. The Interpon D2010 range is recommended for exterior use in high UV and high humidity environments where ultra durable coating performance is required.
KnotwoodTM applies with Australian Standard AS3715 and International Standards BS6496, BS6497, AAMA2603, WANZ, AIMF Qaulicoat. Our product is backed by the largest paint company in the world Akzo Nobel. A full copy of the Akzo Nobel Warranty can be downloaded on our website.
1. Film Integrity – 10 years
KnotwoodTM coatings are warranted on buildings not to chalk or crack for a minimum period of 10 years from the date of application when applied and tested in accordance with AS31015-2002.
2. Colour Integrity – 10 years
KnotwoodTM coatings shall retain colour integrity on buildings for a minimum period of 10 years from the date of application.
1. Colour Retention: When colour measurements are taken across the coated surface. KnotwoodTM coatings will maintain an average colour consistency in accordance with ASTM D2244-85 Section 6.3. Colour change shall be measured on the exposed paint surface which has been cleaned of oil, grease, dirt, chalk, oxidised film or other contaminants.
2. Chalking Resistance: When measured on the building across represented exposed coated surface. Chalking of KnotwoodTM coatings will perform in accordance with ASTM D 4214 test method A (Method D659).
Care and Maintenance
To maintain the good looks of KnotwoodTM the product needs to be washed regularly all over. In fact looking after KnotwoodTM is like looking after a new car – regular washing keeps your investment in good condition.
Wash with a soft brush and mild pH neutral detergent followed by thorough rinsing with fresh water will ensure that substances such as airborne salts, dirt and pollutants detrimental to the long term performance of the coated film are removed.
1. Where the atmosphere is deemed to be non-hazardous such as rural or normal environments, cleaning must take place at least every 12 months.
2. In areas such as industrial areas or coastal environments then cleaning should be increased to every 3 months.
3. In areas such as beachfronts, severe marine environments or high industrial pollution areas, cleaning must take place every month.
Warning: Strong and abrasive household cleaners and solvents such as paint thinners are harmful to the coating and must not be used for cleaning purposes under any circumstances. Also acidic, alkaline or alcohol-based cleaning products should not be used either.
